About the name

Jean-Nicolas Corvisart (1755–1821) was a French physician, and later Napoleon's personal doctor. He revived chest percussion, a technique that had been described decades earlier and then forgotten, and brought it into everyday practice.

Above all, he taught at the bedside. His students learned by examining patients themselves, not only from lectures. One of them, René Laennec, went on to invent the stethoscope. CORVISART is named after him in that spirit.
